Parent's guide to online summer camps

Updated: Jul 29, 2020

With Covid-19 numbers spiking all over the country, your kiddos favorite summer camps may not be an option this year - and if they are available in your area, they may not be the safest option. So, as parents, what can we do to ensure our children continue to learn and grow this summer?

Enter Online Summer Camps.

Now, of course this isn't the same as traditional camps but this is without a doubt the safest option for our kids right now. In addition to safety, there are some other pretty great perks of online learning!

First, Cost.

Online camps, on average, tend to be much less expensive than the same traditional in-person counterparts. Sometimes the savings is 50% or more! We could all use this cost savings right now more than ever before.

Second, Convenience.

No traffic, no long commutes, no lunches to pack. Technically, you don't even have to get the kids out of their pajamas for camp. Additionally, the 'online' platform allows you to choose programs that have never been available to you before. Your kiddos can learn from amazing instructors from around the world! And to make it even more convenient that that, opt for a self guided camp that you students can do at their own pace. These are typically pre-recorded video lessons as opposed to the live virtual options like zoom or google classroom. A high quality program will have lots of bonus / printable material and you usually get to keep the course forever and repeat as many times as you'd like!

Third, Overall Wellbeing.

This is a strange time to be alive. Let's just face it. It's not only the adults that feel the stress. If you've been stressed at all - you're kids feel that. An online camp can give them something to be excited for and take their minds off of anything that might be bothering them. If your kids are anything like mine, they are bored and driving each other crazy. If you opt for a live, interactive camp, they will get the opportunity to socialize with kids from around the block or around the world! In addition the emotional benefit, if you choose a high quality program, your student will learn and grow while having tons of fun!

Finally, shop small and support our economy.

We suggest supporting small businesses during this time whenever possible. Most local after school / summer camp programs are small business would greatly benefit from your support right now!
